1. Purpose of the technical verification

The technical documentation serves as a basis for information and evaluation for the assessment and possible registration of 17-inch supermoto spoked wheels on vehicles that are originally equipped with enduro or cross wheels.

It was created to provide customers, inspectors and technical bodies with a structured overview of the specifications, material qualities and application areas of the components offered by SM WORKS .

This certificate does not replace an official parts certificate or an ABE (General Operating Permit ), but serves solely as technical support for tests and individual approvals.

SM WORKS is a manufacturer and supplier of components , but not a testing laboratory or approval authority .

2. Demarcation and legal background

Since June 2025, the testing authorities have largely discontinued the creation of new component reports in the previous form.

Since then, in most cases, registrations are carried out via individual approvals with technical comparison documents and material certificates.

SM WORKS had previously attempted to initiate its own parts certification. Due to the changed legal framework and the lack of testing standards for universal (competition) spoked wheels, this was no longer possible .

However, our products are based on the same technical standards and partly identical components as those successfully tested in previous reports from other manufacturers (e.g. TÜV/FAKT/GTÜ).

In short:

SM WORKS provides the technical basis for registration, but the testing and approval are solely at the discretion of the testing authority .

3. Scope of the proof

The technical documentation relates to the conversion of enduro or cross models to 17″ supermoto configurations .

Typical examples are conversions based on the following platforms:

-KTM EXC / EXC-F / 690 SMC-R

-Husqvarna (Husaberg) FE/TE/701 Supermoto

-GasGas EC / EC-F / SM 700

-Beta RR / RR Racing

-Sherco SE/SEF Enduro models

-Fantic Enduro / Motard series

-Stark VARG (electric platform)

The components used (rim rings, spokes, hubs) are technically compatible with the respective OEM axle systems. Vehicle-specific adaptations are achieved through suitable spacers, brake disc adapters, or sprocket mounts .

4. No liability for approval or registration

SM WORKS supplies only components and technical documentation .

We accept no liability for:

-the successful completion of an individual inspection,

-the decision of the testing body or authority,

-Consequential costs due to rejected registrations,

-or damage caused by improper installation.

The customer is obliged to carry out a proper technical inspection before use in public road traffic and to comply with the legal requirements (e.g. power restriction, lighting system, reflectors, license plate position etc.).

Note: Vehicles with an open exhaust system, without a throttle or without a lighting system are generally not eligible for registration – regardless of the wheel set used.

5. Legal situation in Austria, Germany & Switzerland

country

Responsible authority

Type of entry

Austria (AT)

State testing centers / §57a examiners

In all countries, the approval is at the discretion of the testing authority , not the parts manufacturer.

However, our technical documentation can serve as a basis for testing , as it is based on demonstrably tested rims (GIANT / GLM 7116-T6) and material certificates .

6. Transparency and technical basis

SM WORKS provides detailed technical documentation for each platform , including:

-Material certificates (Aluminum 7116-T6)

-Lab reports (Tensile, Yield, Elongation, Hardness)

-DOT compliance certificate (D.MAG Kunshan / GIANT Group)

-Declaration of conformity KTM Sportmotorcycle AG/SM WORKS

-TÜV/GTÜ/FAKT parts certificate (for comparison purposes)

These documents can be requested in the protected download area (see page 5 “TÜV folder”).
