1. Purpose of this page

This page explains the relationship between the technical documentation provided by SM WORKS and the existing TÜV, GTÜ and manufacturer documents that can be used to assess the eligibility for registration of Supermoto conversions.

Important:

The documents shown here serve solely as a technical reference (partial reports, material certificates, declarations of conformity).

They do not replace a separate parts certificate from SM WORKS and are not transferable in the sense of an ABE or EU type approval.

2. TÜV & GTÜ reports – basis for comparison

SM WORKS bases its technical documentation on wheel/tire combinations that have already been officially tested from existing TÜV and GTÜ reports .

These documents originate from, among others, KTM Sportmotorcycle AG and were prepared by TÜV Süd and FAKT/GTÜ .

The technical specifications of these reports correspond to the wheel sets offered by SM WORKS – particularly with regard to:

-Rim dimensions (3.50” x 17” front / 4.25/4.50/5.00” x 17” rear)

-Tire dimensions (120/70 R17 front / 150–160/60 R17 rear)

-Material quality and construction (forged aluminum rims, spoked wheels with identical design)

This makes these reports comparable , even though they were originally issued on AKRONT, EXCEL, BEHR and GIANT (GLM).

GIANT (GLM) rims meet the same technical requirements and even exceed them according to laboratory results (see page 2).

3. Declaration of conformity from KTM Sportmotorcycle AG/SM WORKS

KTM confirms with the declaration of conformity dated October 4, 2001 , that the following models:

- KTM 4T-EGS, 4T-EXC, 4T-SC, 2T-EXC, 400 LC4, 620 LC4, 2T-EGS

The installation of 17-inch wheels is technically safe , provided that:

-the conversion is carried out professionally by a workshop ,

-the tire markings (speed and load index) are correct,

ECE-approved tires are used

-and that there is sufficient clearance in all chassis positions.

This declaration covers the basic approval for 17-inch conversions , which is still used as a technical basis in many TÜV tests today .

4. Why "GIANT" is missing from older reports

Older parts certificates (TÜV Süd) only listed the OEM wheel brands of the time – AKRONT, EXCEL, BEHR – because GIANT (or D.MAG Kunshan) did not yet supply wheels for the European market at that time .

Since 2015, GIANT Group / D.MAG has been producing for many OEMs and aftermarket brands (e.g. KOVE, CF-Moto, Sherco, Beta, etc.) and is now technically equivalent or superior .

The material analysis (7116-T6) and tensile strength of the GIANT rims are above the values of the brands mentioned in the old reports.

5. Legal significance of comparative expert opinions

The documents referenced here may not be used or copied as your own application documents .

They serve solely as a basis for comparison in technical tests, to facilitate assessment by the examiners.

As part of an individual approval (§ 21 StVZO / § 33 KFG), the inspector can decide whether the product is accepted based on identical specifications .

SM WORKS supports this process with all technical evidence , material data and measurement data .

In short:

Our rims are based on demonstrably tested specifications – we provide all the necessary documentation so that the inspector can confirm equivalence.
